Clinic Appointment

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:28 pm by Administrator

I had my clinic appointment this afternoon. Dr Mason seems to be confident enough that there’ll be no complications that he suggested going 18 months before my next appointment. That’s truly remarkable when you consider that the initial diagnosis carried a dismal 9-12 month prognosis. In the end we compromised on 12 months so my next appointment is in November 2006.

Support Group

I went to a support group meeting at the Pencer clinic this evening. They are normally held every second Tuesday each month on the 18th floor at Princess Margaret Hospital in the clinic. There are actually two groups that meet at the same time in different rooms. One group is for patients and survivors and the other group is for caregivers. I go to the patient group. This was my first visit in over a year. I’m not really going for myself anymore, but in a small way I want to help others who find themselves in my situation. That’s the main reason why this website exists too.

I was happy to see that several people who were at the last group I attended (over a year ago) are still showing up. There were also several new attendees. It was one of the best sessions I have been to.

Another MRI

Had an MRI scan at PMH today. I’ve been going for MRIs there longer than most of the technicians have been employed there! A quick trip across the street to the imaging centre at Toronto General and I had the CD-ROM of my MRI within 15 minutes. Isn’t technology wonderful? My clinic appointment is scheduled for next week.

The Other End

Speaking of health issues ;-), I had to go to the local hospital for a colonoscopy today. I was referred for this procedure when I had my annual physical this year in May. The possibility of colon cancer as well as a malignant brain tumor is not something I wanted to contemplate. Thankfully the only polyp found was inflammatory rather than adenomous.

Feeling Old

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:08 pm by Administrator

I will be 50 years old this year, and the normal health issues for someone my age are making themselves evident. I’ve had reading glasses for over a year, but I think my prescription needs to be changed as my eyesight has deteriorated further. So far I don’t need glasses full time, but I would bet there are bi-focals in my future.
