I had a scare this last weekend when I noticed a “fuzzy” spot in my visual field. Within an hour or so my left forearm and left foot were getting numb. Eventually my lips and tongue also went numb, and my speech became slurred. I was hospitalized overnight for observation, during which time I was pumped full of IV Decadron and was given a CT scan. The scan showed no tumour activity, and by the morning I was more or less back to normal. Opinion seems divided as to whether I had a migraine with neurological symptoms or a transient ischemic attack (TIA – possibly a pre-cursor to a stroke.) In an effort to get a differential diagnosis I’m now scheduled for ultrasound exams of the carotid arteries and the heart, as well as another MRI. Stay tuned.
